This is my first lesson, what should I expect??
You're first lesson will be an initial chance for us to meet and have a chat about a few things. We will see what sort of music you like, what type of artists you listen to at the moment, any experience you might have had and really your hopes for the lessons, what you want to get out of them.
All lessons are individual so I will start by showing you a few basic techniques to warm up your voice, we will look at posture, breathing, vowel shapes and very quickly introduce a couple of singing warm up exercises that you can work on in the lesson and at home.
After the first lesson you should decide whether I am the right teacher for you and from there we'll book in your 6 week lesson plan. If you are a complete beginner the lessons will progress through range building (extending your voice a little higher and lower through) teaching you vowel sounds that affect the song, correct posture for singing and introducing you to different styles of music.
I know how to sing, can I just have ad hoc lessons?
Yes! You can book lessons for pre-exam times or if you are working towards an audition or gig and need a bit of direction with song choices and performance technique.
What songs will we sing?
This is directed by you but! if I think a song choice isn't quite right for your range or I feel you could do better I will suggest alternatives. After the initial 6 week lesson I will introduce you to different genres of music to extend your and teach different vocal styles.
The genre of music can be anything from Pop, Hip hop, R&B, Soul, Jazz, Blues and Rock. I can provide you with backing tracks to practice with for £3.00 per track or if you play an instrument you can accompany yourself.
Where will the lessons take place?
Lessons can take place in Greenwich, South East London or from your home, the space must be free from distractions and noise and be available for the full length of the lesson.
Central London lessons can be arranged at 'All Flutes Plus' close to Warren Street tube station, this space has an additional hire fee of £10.00
Do you have any qualifications??
Yes! I have a diploma in Music Education from Access to Music and a PTTLS Certificate, this means I have spent a year becoming qualified to teach music. I also studied at Vocaltech on the Popular Music diploma.
I am a member of the Musician Union and have taken the Child Protection course. All singing teachers must have an Enhanced CRB Certificate and Public Liability Insurance which I have and also adhere to the Music Leader code of Practice.
If you would like any references at all just drop me an email.
I'd like to record a demo, is this something you can arrange?
Absolutely! We work with a brilliant producer who runs a small, friendly studio in London. The price for demos will include a 15 minute vocal consultation, 3 tracks and a mastered CD/MP3 for you to have to keep.
If you want to record a special track for someone or maybe a duet we can give you a price for that also, this will be based on an hourly rate.
Recording technique classes are also available for people looking at getting into session singing and voice overs.
What if I need to cancel my lesson?
We have a standard 24 hour cancellation policy for all lessons. If you need to cancel your lesson I need 24 hours notice by email and the lesson will be rescheduled in addition to your booked slots.
Should I need to reschedule due to performance commitments I will always give you notice.
If less than 24 hours notice is given, full fee will be charged.
